How to Be an Adult - BOOK

Book by Nerissa Nields,
Illustrated by Katryna Nields

A right-brained manual for those in their 20s who want some direction on how to do all those things the professors neglected to teach: paying taxes, finding health insurance, getting along with crazy house-mates, cooking a healthy meal and lots more. "If you know anyone who is graduating soon, buy them a copy of this book. It might be more useful than a car."–Gay Daly, Environmental Journalist.

I Can't Be New - CD
Susan Werner's Koch debut, and her sixth outing overall, is a collection of self-penned tunes in the manner, spirit, and flavor that spending a late night working in an office on Tin Pan Alley might provide. There is a beautiful, smoky, jazzy feeling that reminds one simultaneously of Hoagy Carmichael's more laid-back moments, Jerome Kern's humor, and the deep nostalgic atmospherics of Tom Waits' early Tin Pan Alley-influenced material...

This is a brilliantly constructed, soulful, and cleverly tender effort by a songwriter and musician who is in such complete command of her gifts that it's almost scary.

Thom Jurek, All Music Guide

Joyful Sign

After spending the last six years living, cooking meals, writing songs, and even attending therapy together in a cramped New York City apartment, the members of Girlyman are ready to make a change. Perhaps the title track off their new CD, Joyful Sign, says it best: Sometimes leaving is a joyful sign Like a little child singing, "This little light of mine, gonna let it shine." Band member Nate Borofsky admits that leaving is a major theme throughout the CD. "When we moved in together and started Girlyman six years ago, we all kind of fell in love and had this creative explosion. Now that we're all moving out, there's a sense of possibility and excitement about what could happen next." Co-produced with Bob Harris, Joyful Sign features the band's folk/pop/bluegrass sound but with a sense of confidence, energy and spirit that the trio has become known for live. The album is a showcase for memorable, well-crafted songs, graced by the group's signature three-part harmonies.

When Amalee's grandmother dies, she inherits a very strange object: a huge champagne bottle filled with over a thousand dollars' worth of change. Amalee is told to spend the money on something important, so she decides to make a movie about endangered species. Soon there's as much going on behind the scenes as there is in front of the camera, as Amalee deals with a new friend, a very cute older boy, her wacky family friends, and a host of other challenges. She also discovers something she never expected to find -- a link with her mother, who disappeared and died when she was very little.

Live at Bearsville - DVD

Having released seven albums, including 2005's critically acclaimed MY BETTER SELF, her first-ever DVD, Live at the Bearsville Theater, provides abundant evidence of Williams' tuneful gifts, charming humor and empathic nature.

Playing her acoustic guitar, Williams presents sixteen songs, including most of her best-known works, in solo fashion or accompanied by her longtime backing band. Williams offers to the Bearsville audience triumphant renditions of favorites from her early career like the classic "Iowa (Traveling III)," "The Babysitter's Here," "When I was a Boy," "As Cool As I Am" and the gorgeous "February," along with recent songs like the resplendent "Spring Street," "Beauty of the Rain" and a new song "The Easy Way."

Red Luck

"Red=Luck was written in an outpouring of songwriting. I think of these songs as coming out of the American songbook form. Some lyrical and musical twists added in, along with a stellar cast of musicians(Jonatha Brooke, Solas, Merrie Amsterburg...) along with a subsequent trip to China to adopt my first daughter, make this a memorable album for me. " - Patty Larkin

released 2003

Regrooving the Dream

REGROOVING THE DREAM
"Regrooving was the first studio album I made for my new label, Vanguard. I think of it as a kaleidoscope of styles and colors: an Appalachian ballad, played on distorted electric guitar, a samba of love with a cascading cello part that catapults it into the blues, a slamming instrumental that segues into a hip hop beat, complete with samples and musical information that flies at you out of nowhere.
Anyway, the main thing is: Regrooving the Dream." - Patty Larkin

Remember Who I Am (CD)
Girlyman's debut CD, "Remember Who I Am", is a stirring collection of remembrances -of friends, of lovers, of ways of life. The group members trade songwriting responsibilities, though their techniques flow together as smoothly as their electric harmonies.

Rock All Day Rock All Night

The second family album.  Nerissa and Katryna have been running an age 0-5 music class for the past two years, so many these songs have been road tested by the most discriminating of audiences.  As with their last family CD, All Together Singing in the Kitchen, their father John Nields appears on several of the songs.  The Nields had so much material they decided to make a double CD.  Rock All Day is uptempos for dancing, dinner making and car trips.  Rock All Night is a lullaby CD--perfect for playing in a nursery boom box for an every evening going-to-bed concert.

Shadow of a Habit - CD

The garden verge, the former duo made up of Ty Greenstein and Doris Muramatsu, was created twenty-five years ago when a second-grade teacher in Princeton Junction, New Jersey sat the two girls next to each other, certain that they would never speak to one another. Instead, they became best friends. Their musical partnership began a few years later when Ty took up the guitar and Doris began to spontaneously sing harmonies. "Shadow of a Habit", released in 2001, is the first result of this collaboration.

SING YOU SINNERS - CD

SING YOU SINNERS is McKeown's fifth full-length album - a rollicking collection of covers from the 20's through the 50's. While a few tracks will be familiar to music fans, the majority of the songs were collected by McKeown from the forgotten corners of Broadway and Tin Pan Alley. In true McKeown fashion, there is a wide range of rhythms and emotions, all collected under the guise of a mischievously good time.

Sister Holler CD

Sister Holler is Nerissa and Katryna's fourteenth album to date, and it brings them back to their folk roots while at the same time showcasing their growth as musicians and songwriters. The premise of the album is that Folk music has always been passed down orally, and as such, it changes with each generation of singers and songwriters. Each song was inspired by a pre-existing song: there's a revised version of the old spiritual, "Ain't That Good News," a modern sea chanty--even a version of Pachelbel's Canon in D.

Best of all," quips Nerissa, "this CD is green: reduce, reuse and recycle is its motto. There are plenty of great old songs out there; why write new ones?"

That being said, there is plenty here that is new and fresh--long time Nields fans will not be disappointed and this CD is sure to garner The Nields a whole new generation of listeners. Produced by Dave Chalfant.

Somewhere Different Now

After years of asking, fans are finally getting what they want - Girlyman's first live album! Packed with 29 tracks, "Somewhere Different Now" has it all: new, unrecorded songs, covers, hilarious banter, and improvised ditties. The album is 76 minutes of pure, unleashed Girlyman, with all their intensity, levity, and harmony. An exciting, self-produced endeavor, "Somewhere Different Now" will make you laugh and cry (maybe both at the same time) and will give you the experience of a Girlyman concert in the privacy of your own home.

Songs For Kids Like Us - Robbie Schaefer

Songs For Kids Like Us is the first children's/family album from Robbie Schaefer, guitarist and songwriter for the folk-pop band Eddie From Ohio. Released on Rocket Pop Records in May, 2006, the recording is catchy, clever, sweet, and ridiculous. Featuring songs about everything from a fish that swims in a bathtub to a cowboy who can only speak backward, “Songs For Kids Like Us” will strike a chord with kids as well as grown-ups who never grew up! Really. Pinky-swear.

Susan Werner takes on the church in contemporary American life in this gospel/bluegrass - tinged collection of 11 new originals. Quite possibly the first "agnostic gospel" album, this CD surveys the wide variety of viewpoints regarding the church today, ranging from earnest and uplifting handclap choir rousers such as "help somebody" to the introspective and critical "forgiveness" and "sunday mornings," pausing along the way for comic relief in the frank and humorous "our father" and what is sure to become the anthem of agnostics everywhere, "probably not." A project sure to confirm Werner's reputation as "one of the most innovative songwriters working today" (Chicago Tribune).

This is Me
* * NEW Eddie from Ohio CD * *

With Grammy-winning producer, Lloyd Maines (Dixie Chicks, James McMurtry), EFO presents their ninth CD. With 15 songs, it's unlike any past EFO record - electrified - energized, yet still genre-hopping under the wide umbrella of folk rock, and still lyrically driven, spinning tales of love, war and hand gestures used in traffic. "THIS IS ME". This is Eddie from Ohio. This is their best work to date.

This Town is Wrong CD
Nerissa & Katryna's newest CD on Zoe/Rounder Records...The quirky, emotive songs of Nerissa and Katryna Nields have always challenged the mind, even as they touched the heart. With This Town Is Wrong, the sisters take their most ambitious musical and cerebral journey yet, a trip into the world of two misunderstood 13-year-old girls who plunge into songwriting to ease the ache of pre-adolescence.

Three Rooms

The eighth release from EFO on their very own Virginia Soul Records, Three Rooms is a double live album that was recorded in the Spring and Summer of 2002 at three different venues (The Birchmere, The Somerville Theatre & Wolf Trap's Filene Center). The band is joined by very special guests Jon Carroll and John Jennings, not to mention an appearance by The Fillmore Horns. Produced by Billy Wolf.
